Galvanized steel wire is used in unbonded prestressed concrete, cable-stayed bridge tendons, suspension systems, overhead power lines, fencing, and protective wire mesh. Flexible sheaths are often added for additional environmental protection.

Galvanized steel wire is manufactured by drawing high-grade carbon structural steel (e.g., 45#, 65#, 70#), followed by hot-dip or electro-galvanizing. It offers corrosion resistance and mechanical properties comparable to straightened and tempered wire. Commonly used as unbonded prestressed reinforcement and in cable-stayed bridges, it requires a zinc coating of at least 200–300 g/m² and is often protected with flexible outer sheaths.
